For perhaps the last day for a while, we experienced mirror glass seas and clear blue skies all day. (Some storms are forecast for later this week…we shall see.) Two trips left the harbor and we closely watched 3 Pacific gray whales. There was another that was seen only by its single spout in the distance, hence it is not part of the official tally.
Early in the day we located a single, very young and small gray whale out past the mariculture zone at Hope Ranch. It was a very late SOUTHbound whale…which may have been circling around when we saw it, or…actually aiming for the Baja Lagoons.
In the afternoon we watched two large, adult gray whales near Platform Charlie off Summerland. These were wonderful whales to watch with 3 minute down times and double tail flukes on every terminal dive.
You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
