THEY ARE BACK!

2025 03-29 SB Channel

Captain Dave and the crew once again experience rather bumpy seas. Skies had a high stratus layer. Sightings were not only phenomenal, they were epic: 20 humpback whales (10 closely watched), 1 gray whale and 2500 common dolphins. Hint: the humppacks have returned to The Channel.

A single morning trip left The Harbor and before long, about 3 miles west of The Rigs, we intercepted a single, northbound, migrating gray whale. We followed it for a while and soon additional spouts were seen west of our location. We moved.

Southwest of The Farm, we found a wide swath of ocean upon which a massive, BS5 birdnado was taking place. At least 2500 dolphins were feeding alongside the birds.

Also present in this area, as mentioned above, were at at least 20 actively feeding humpbacks. We closely watched about 10 of these individuals as they were lunge feeding all around us. We saw synchronized, cooperative, lunge feeding with two, three, four and even five whales at the same time. It was definitely NatGeo, and the little anchovies never stood a chance.

You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
