Thousands of dolphins an 3 nice humpbacks including a calf.

Although rain is in the forecast for tomorrow, skies were sunny and clear today. There was no wind and a very slight lump on the surface. Sightings for the day included: 5000 common dolphins and 3 humpback whales.

Per usual, the first very small pods of dolphins were observed 2 miles outside The Harbor. As we angled to the southwest, we had larger pods 5 miles off Hope Ranch. These larger pods were on the move. No feeding. No birds. Nonetheless, a few did come over and enjoy riding our bow, side, and stern waves.  We continued southwest until we got out by The Buoy.  From there, our search pattern turned East to a location about 3 miles north of The Lanes, and 4 miles south of Platform Habitat. This is where our whales were located. It was a trio. A mother was seen with her calf along with a third adult, possibly an escort. We had great looks over quite a number of dive cycles. No feeding, mugging, or fancy aerial activity while we were with them.

On the way home more large herds of dolphins, some stretch for half a mile.

You never know what Mother Nature has in store.
