We got mugged!

In most states mugging is a criminal offense but when an 80-foot high speed catamaran named the Condor Express gets mugged by a 45-foot beast, it’s a whole different story.  So among the 4 humpback #whales we watched today, one very large female befriended us and stayed within a  few yards of the boat for 45 thrilling minutes.  The repertoire included rolling upside down, doing head stands, spy hops, waving pects, and moving back and forth under the boat so her fan club on all sides of the boat got the full monty.   Deck hand and second Captain Eric put the GoPro pole in and got some great footage even though the water clarity was not optimal.   You can see for yourself at

Later we took a tour of Santa Cruz Island including the world famous Painted Cave.  Closer to the island we encountered 3 more humpbacks and saw about 500 long-beaked common dolphins too.  Conditions were glassy with a thin stratus layer all day. You never know what Mother Nature has in store. Bob Perry Condor Express
