We watched four whales on a nice sunny day in the Channel.

2025 10–18 SB Channel

Crystal clear water remains in the Channel and enhanced all of our whale sightings. Skies were clear and sunny with a light breeze. A mixed swell made for a light bump. Captain Eddy and the crew ran S and into the northbound lane. Sightings for the day included 2 pairs of humpback whales.

We were 8 miles offshore when we found the first pair. It was one small whale and one medium sized. They had short down times and appeared to be in slow travel mode, possibly feeding  sub-surface. The Condor Express was able to get reasonably close for some good looks. (See today’s photo for an example).

After driving by a couple of thousand birds that were sitting on the water, probably from previous birdnado, and having retrieved one balloon from the ocean surface, we continued out to the lanes.

The second pair of whales was discovered on the edge of the lanes. We watched for a while as they slowly traveled to the E.

You never know what mother nature has in store.
