Humpback Whales and Minke Whales Spotted Today

California Humpback Whales

Thursday, September 27, 2012 Trip Sightings Report:

A gorgeous late summer California day in the Santa Barbara Channel with very light winds and calm seas all day. The morning fog broke off early and the sun was bright and warm. The two California Humpback whales seen today were a mother and her calf. The calf approached the boat at one point for a close look. The four Minke whales were a bit less elusive today, and passengers got some nice views of these sleak, fast baleen whales. As has been the pattern for the past few weeks, the common dolphin pods were scattered all over the grounds and were constant companions for our trip today.
