2026 07–19 SB Channel
Captain Dave and the crew ran S and found a hotspot close to where we had the action yesterday, near the buoy. We had calm seas and a light breeze developed later in the day. Total of sightings: 15 coastal bottlenose dolphins, 1 humpback whale, and 2500 common dolphins.
We followed a nice-sized pod of coastal bottlenose dolphins past the end of Stearns Wharf and into the Anchorage. (See today’s photograph for an example).
There were quite a few of a smaller species of dolphin, the common dolphins, around all day. Most were in groups of, 100, 200 or 300 each. There were many more of them feeding within moderately sized birdnados.
At the hotspot, along with all the common dolphins and birds, there was 1 adult humpback whale also feeding beneath the waves. We had some great looks to round out the day.
You never know what mother nature has in store.
